Review of Christine’s Class!
To Whom It May Concern,
It is my pleasure to compliment and endorse the benefits of Christine King’s
Yoga Classes taught at Vi at La Jolla Village, aka “The Vi”, a Continuing
Care Retirement Community (CCRC) providing different levels of care, i.e.,
Independent Living, Assisted, Skilled Nursing and Memory Support.
I am Elizabeth Snowden, a UCSD Retiree, 92 years old, and a former employee
of UCSD School of Medicine, and General Internal Medicine/Geriatrics. I
have lived at the Vi 15 years, and experienced Yoga taught by multiple
instructors screened by Melanie Hanson, Director of our Lifestyle
Department; however Christina King ranks number one in both the quality and
effectiveness of her Yoga instruction.
Resident participation in Yoga classes taught by Christine has increased
significantly, both male and female, and now ranks number one in attendance
at the Vi. What I find extremely helpful from a medical standpoint and
recovery from surgery, is the similarity of recommended exercises to regain
strength and flexibility practiced by Physical and Occupational Therapy
professionals, to the exercise routines taught by Christina and the
abdominal breathing advocated on a daily basis by Cardiologists. UCSD
Orthopedic Surgeons consented to perform knee replacement surgery at age 90,
based on my interest and dedication to Yoga exercise.
Falls experienced by Seniors are a major contributor to brain damage and
result in a sudden downturn in their quality of life. Christina’s balance
exercises and emphasis on flexibility help to reduce the incidence of falls
and their serious consequences.
I write this description of Christina King’s effectiveness in teaching whole
body exercise and the principles of Yoga to express my thankfulness for her
commitment to helping seniors.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Snowden
